Players of the Week � Apr. 4

Baseball - Position Player

Steve Wiczek (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) - The senior designated hitter continued his red-hot hitting in six conference games this week. Wiczek picked up at least two hits in every game, and averaged nearly three RBI's per contest. He smashed a two-run double and three-run homer in a 10-9 victory over Stout. He had a first inning grand slam in a 7-4 win over the Blue Devils on Saturday, and went four-for-five in the second half of that doubleheader. For the week, Wiczek was 15-for-26 (.577) at the plate, with a slugging percentage of 1.077. He racked up four doubles, three home runs and 17 runs batted in. Wiczek is batting .556 for the season.

Baseball - Pitcher

Matt Simonson (Plover, WI/Pacelli) - The sophomore right handed pitcher fired a nine-inning complete game 7-4 victory over UW-Stout in the opener of their weekend series. Simonson struck out eight Blue Devil hitters and allowed just eight hits. Two of the four Stout runs were unearned. Simonson retired 11 straight Stout batters, until giving up a bunt single with two outs in the ninth innning.

Softball - Position Player

Jenny Feidt (Kimberly, WI/Kimberly) - The junior second baseman led the Pointers to a doubleheader sweep of Milwaukee School of Engineering. Feidt notched a pair of doubles in the Pointers' 10-1 victory in the opener. She went two-for-four and drive in two runs. In the nightcap the Pointers claimed an 8-0 victory as Feidt crushed her first career home run, a solo shot in the fourth inning. She added a double and a single to go three-for-three in the game, and drove in three runs.

Softball - Pitcher

Kelly Jablonski (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) - The freshman pitcher fired her first career no-hitter in the Pointers' 8-0 victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering. In fact, a perfect game for Jablonski was spoiled only by a catcher's interference call in the fourth inning. She struck out three hitters, while walking none.

Men's Track Events

Cory Christnovich (Neenah, WI/Neenah) - The senior hurdler led the Pointers to sweep of the top three places in the 110 meter hurdles at the North Central Invitational. Christnovich won the event with a time of 15.33 seconds. He also ran in the 400 meter hurdles, placing 10th.

Men's Field Events

Kent Hutchinson (Green Bay, WI/Preble) - The junior claimed top honors in the javelin throw a the North Central Invitational. Hutchinson easily won the event with a toss of 47.77 meters, as the Pointers claimed the top six places in the event. Hutchinson also competed in the triple jump placing fourth with a leap of 13.17 meters.

Women's Track Events

Marie Burrows (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) - The sophomore claimed first place in the 200 meter dash at the North Central Invitational. Burrows breezed past the field in a time of 25.75 seconds to claim top honors. Burrows also ran on the Pointers' victorious 4 x 400 meter relay team, and the 4 x 100 meter relay team which placed second.

Women's Field Events

Bethany Richter (Green Bay, WI/Preble) - The sophomore set a personal record in the javelin last week, and improved it by another two meters this week. Richter claimed first place in the javelin at the North Central Invitational with a toss of 37.13 meters (121' 10''). She also placed third in the long jump, leaping 5.17 meters (16' 11.5'').
