Mitchler and Ellis Named WIAC Athletes of the Week
A pair of
UW-Stevens Point track and field athletes have been named Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week after winning
events and qualifying for the national meet at last weekend�s Pointer
Qualifer.
Junior
Jenna Mitchler, a Kaukauna native, was the women�s track Athlete of the Week
after earning an automatic qualifying time in the 800-meter run in 2:14.50.
She also ran on the winning 4x400-meter relay team that posted a time of
4:02.32. Mitchler was part of last week�s distance medley relay team that
earned conference Athlete of the Week honors for provisionally qualifying
for nationals.
Sophomore
Mitch Ellis, a Three Lakes native, was the men�s field Athlete of the Week
for winning the high jump at last week�s meet. Ellis had a provisional mark
of six feet, 8.25 inches to win the event.
The Pointer
track and field teams will compete this weekend at the WIAC indoor
championships in Platteville. The NCAA Division III championships are
scheduled for March 11-12 in Bloomington, Ill. |
