Schmitt Named First-Team All-American in
Womens Hockey
For the second straight year, UW-Stevens Point has landed a
first-team All-American performer in womens hockey as sophomore forward
Jackie Schmitt has been honored by the American Hockey Coaches Association.
Schmitt, a Buffalo Grove, Ill. native, was also a first-team
All-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association performer as the Pointers
finished 20-5-2 overall for their second straight 20-win season. Schmitt is
the second All-American in the three-year history of the UW-Stevens Point
womens hockey program as Ann Ninnemann earned the honor last season. Schmitt became the first player in the Pointers three-year history to reach 40 points in a single season while leading the NCHA in scoring. She also led the league with 21 goals this year.
Schmitt led the NCHA with five power play goals this season and
committed just one penalty all year. Her 19 assists led the NCHA and she
also had four game-winning goals after leading the NCAA Division III with 10
game-winners as a freshman when she also earned first-team All-NCHA
accolades.
Other West Region players on the first team were Marlene Yaeger, Ali
Slinden and Lindsy Carlson of UW-River Falls, as well as Lindsay Weier of
St. Olaf and Lauren Chezick of Augsburg. |
