Players of the Week � Feb. 25

Women�s Hockey

Ashley Howe (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville) � The freshman scored two goals and an assist in leading the Pointers to the championship of the NCHA Playoffs. In Saturday�s semifinal, Howe assisted on Jackie Schmitt�s goal to open the scoring, and then scored the game-winning goal two minutes into the third period. The Pointers defeated UW-Eau Claire 3-1. In the Championship game, Howe scored an unassisted goal late in the first period to lift the Pointers to a 2-1 victory over UW-River Falls.

Men�s Track Events

4 x 400 Meter Relay Team � The team of Craig Gunderson (Waupaca, WI), Matt Buska (Mosinee, WI), Matthew Legel (Crystal Lake, IL) and Ben Treptow (Viroqua, WI) won their event at the Pointer Open Invitational in an NCAA Championship qualifying time 3:19.55.

Men�s Field Events

Ryan Shepard (Cornell, WI) � Shepard placed second in the high jump at the Pointer Open Invitational. Shepard cleared 1.98 meters (6� 6��) to tie with Mike Gratz of UW-Platteville. He was placed second based on misses in previous rounds.

Women�s Track Events

Megan Craig (Bangor, WI/Bangor) � The freshman ran a personal best time of 5:01.60 in the mile at the Pointer Open Invitational. She narrowly missed the automatic qualifying time, but still reached the provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Converted to 1,500 meters, her time would break Leah Juno�s school record set last season.

Women�s Field Events

Amanda Nechuta (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) � The freshman won the shot put at the Pointer Invitational. Her throw of 13.97 meters (45� 10��) was good enough to automatically qualify for the NCAA III Indoor Championships.
