Groshek Named First Team All-American by
D3Hoops.com
Two days after winning the NCAA Division III national championship, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point senior center Kari Groshek has been named to D3Hoops.coms NCAA Division III womens basketball All-America First Team. Groshek, a Rosholt native and Rosholt High graduate, was selected to the five-member team that was determined based on position. Groshek is joined on the team by guards Missy Peterson of St. Thomas (Minn.) and Jill Dewane of Lakeland (Wis.) as well as forwards Heather Kile of Swarthmore (Penn.) and Kendra Anderson of Hardin-Simmons (Tex.). This season, Groshek averaged a team-leading 15.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game for the Pointers who finished with a 30-3 record and won the Division III championship. UW-Stevens Point defeated St. Lawrence University (N.Y.), 67-65, on March 16 to win the schools second national championship. The Pointers also won the title in 1987. Groshek had previously been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Player of the Year, WIAC Scholar-Athlete, Second-Team Verizon Academic All-American and one of the 10 finalists for the Jostens Trophy, which honors Division IIIs top student-athlete.
Groshek finished her Pointer career as the schools third all-time
leading scorer with 1,414 points. Her 495 points this season is the second
highest single-season total in school history, just four points shy of the
record. Grosheks 679 career rebounds rank fourth on the all-time list. Iserloth Named Second-Team All-Region in
Mens Basketball
After leading the UW-Stevens Point mens basketball team to its third consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship, junior center Josh Iserloth has been named a second-team All-West Region performer by D3hoops.com. The Plymouth native led the Pointers and ranked fourth in the WIAC with a 20.6 points per game average. He also averaged 5.8 rebounds per game and ranked third in the conference with a 48.3 three-point percentage. At one point, he made 22 of 25 three-point shot attempts. Twice this season, Iserloth broke the schools single-game scoring record by recording 40 points at UW-River Falls on Jan. 9 and then at UW-Whitewater on Jan. 23. He was also a first-team All-WIAC selection. UW-Oshkoshs Tim Dworak was a first-team selection and UW-Whitewaters Aubrey Lewis-Byers was named to the second team. |
