Enders Named All-WIAC; Baldarotta Earns
Coach of the Year Honors
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point senior defenseman Randy Enders has been named to the All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men�s hockey First Team. Enders, a Madison, Wis. native and La Follette High graduate, has four goals and 12 assists, which ranks fourth on the team, for a total of 16 points this season while appearing in all 27 games. He earned Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week honors last week after scoring two goals and recording two assists in the Pointers� two-game sweep of UW-Stout in the NCHA Quarterfinals. In addition, UW-Stevens Point head coach Joe Baldarotta has been named the WIAC Coach of the Year. Heading up a roster that is one-half comprised of freshmen, Baldarotta helped turn around a team that began the year 5-6 into a squad that has gone 12-2-2 in its last 16 games and is 17-8-2 overall and undefeated in its last nine games (7-0-2). Baldarotta earned his 200th career win on Jan. 25 in a 4-2 victory over UW-River Falls. Five Pointer players have also earned honorable mention All-WIAC honors. Senior goaltender Bob Gould (Eagle River, Wis.) has posted a 10-6-2 record and a .893 save percentage. He ranks second on UW-Stevens Point�s all-time wins list. Junior forward Zenon Kochan (Madison, Wis.) ranks second with 14 goals, 15 assists and 29 assists. Freshman forward Mike Brolsma (Appleton, Wis.) leads UW-Stevens Point with 21 goals, 17 assists and 38 points. Freshman forward Ryan Kirchhoff (Fairway, Kan.) ranks third on the team in goals, assists and points (12-15-27) and had a 14-game consecutive game scoring this season. Freshman defenseman Sean Leahy (Port Edwards, Wis.) has posted three goals and 10 assists this season. UW-Stevens Point will take on UW-Superior on Friday, March 1 at 3 p.m. in Ashwaubenon, Wis. in the NCHA Semifinals. The winner will advance to the NCHA Championship game for the right to earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Tournament. |
