Mens Basketball Adds Hirsch and Myles to Recruiting Class

Three-time defending Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference mens basketball champion UW-Stevens Point has added two more recruits for the upcoming 2002-03 season.

The two incoming players are Brett Hirsch of Menomonee Falls High School and Larry Myles of St. Francis High School. Hirsch and Miles join Kyle Grusczynski, a transfer from Wisconsin, and Billy St. John from Green Bay Southwest High School, who announced their intentions to attend UW-Stevens Point earlier this year.

Hirsch, a 6-2 guard, was the Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year this past season while averaging 20 points, three assists and four rebounds per game. A two-time All-Conference and All-Suburban Area performer, Hirsch was also this seasons Waukesha County Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Player for Coach Jim Coles squad.

Brett is a pretty good find for us this time of year, Pointers coach Jack Bennett said of the honorable mention All-State selection. He has a multitude of talents and is a hard worker. Were excited to add a player of his ability.

Myles, a 6-4 swing player, averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks per game while earning first-team All-Parkland Conference accolades for coach Joe Paczochas team. Myles best attribute is his athletic ability, according to Bennett.

Larry is an extremely athletic player, Bennett said. He came into his own his senior season of high school and we certainly look at Larry as a player with great potential.

The Pointers are coming off a 21-6 season that saw them win their third consecutive WIAC regular season title. UW-Stevens Point has posted an impressive 118-44 record over the past six seasons under Bennett.
