Molitor, Verbrick Named Baseball All-Americans UW-Stevens Point
senior Paul Molitor was named to the first team and senior Bill Verbrick was
a second team selection to the American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA
Division III All-American team. Molitor, a third
baseman from Reedsburg, is the first player in school history to earn first
team honors. Verbrick, a pitcher from Appleton Xavier High School, is also
the first second-team selection in Pointer history. The only previous NCAA
All-American was Gary Kostuchowski, who was a third-team selection in 1997. The Pointers finished 37-10 overall and were the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champions. Molitor every
single inning in all 47 games for the Pointers this season and established a WIAC season
record with 210 at bats. He also tied for the league lead with 57 runs
scored and led the league with 58 RBI�s, while ranking second with 78
hits. Verbrick was named the 2002 WIAC
Pitcher of the Year after establishing WIAC season records with 102 innings
pitched and 115 strikeouts. He also set a UW-Stevens Point record for
victories with a 10-2 record and pitched the first nine-inning perfect game
in league history in a 5-0 win over UW-River Falls on April 6. UW-La Crosse shortstop Vinne Rottino was named to the first team and UW-Whitewater utility player Brady Endl was a third-team selection to give the WIAC four All-Americans. |
