Reed Named to Verizon Academic All-District
Baseball Team
UW-Stevens Point senior centerfielder Randy Reed has been named to the Verizon baseball Academic All-District Team. Reed, an Appleton native and East High graduate, is a Physical Education major and Health Education minor who carries a 3.25 grade point average. He is one of three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes to receive the honor, along with Merrill Brunson of UW-Platteville and Vinny Rottino of UW-La Crosse. Reed has started all 39 games in centerfield for the Pointers this season and the last 126 games over his career. Entering play this weekend, Reed leads the team with a .398 batting average to go along with 10 home runs and 46 RBI�s as the Pointers� lead-off hitter. His five triples this season and 10 in his career are both UW-Stevens Point records. Reed also ranks in the top four in Pointer history in games played, at-bats, runs, hits and stolen bases. He is the only player in school history with at least 15 home runs and 30 stolen bases in his career. Reed was honored as the WIAC baseball Position Player of the Week last week after hitting .462 (18-for-39) over an eight-game span. Included in the 18 hits were six doubles, two triples and four home runs, to go along with 12 runs scored and 18 RBI�s. This season, Reed helped lead the Pointers to their third WIAC championship in his career. UW-Stevens Point is currently 31-8 overall and finished 22-6 in WIAC play. The Pointers, who are ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division III poll, will host the WIAC Tournament this Friday and Saturday. |
