UW-Stevens Point overcame poor weather for four non-conference victories over the weekend, sweeping doubleheaders from Marian and Northland. The Pointers beat Marian 5-3 and 9-8 on Saturday with the second game finishing with a snow-covered field. UW-Stevens Point then belted four home runs in each game of a 12-1 and 18-3 sweep of Northland on Sunday.

Sam Molski (Stevens Point, WI) hit three home runs in three different games for the Pointers during the weekend, including a game-winning two-run shot in the opener against Marian. Jason Kozelek (Waterford, WI) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against Northland on Sunday and settled with a one-hitter in the 12-1 win.

The Pointers are ranked 29th in the latest Division III rankings and take on Winona State on Tuesday. The Warriors are ranked in the Division II rankings. UW-Stevens Point also has a busy weekend with six games in three days, including a home doubleheader against Augsburg Saturday at 1 p.m.

UW-Stevens Point improved to 10-1 and ran its winning streak to five straight games by sweeping Concordia (Wis.) 13-4 and 12-0 on Friday. Freshman Nicole Alexander (Dodgeville, WI) hit a grand slam and a three-run homer in the second game to finish three-for-four with eight RBI's. Nikki Best (Portage, WI) and Cari Briley (Creston, IA) each had three hits apiece as well.

UW-Stevens Point also won the opening game as Kelly Rutta (Stevens Point, WI) was two-for-two with two triples and Sarah Berg (Stillwater, MN) was three-for-four.

The Pointers open conference play Tuesday at UW-Platteville and host their home opener Thursday at 3 p.m. against Elmhurst (Ill.). UW-Stevens Point will take part in the UW-Stout Invitational this weekend.

TRACK AND FIELD

The outdoor season opened in poor conditions Saturday in Stevens Point, but the Pointers won both the men's and women's titles by more than 100 points. The men's team had 215 points to outdistance second place Michigan Tech's 113 points and the women's team had 289 points and UW-Oshkosh was second with 180 points.

Becky Lebak (Burlington, WI) automatically qualified for the Division III outdoor championships in the 10,000 meters with a time of 36:53.60, winning by more than two minutes. Leah Juno (Brillion, WI) won the 400 meters and Kara Vosters (Little Chute, WI) captured the 800 meters. April Socha (Phillips, WI) also won the high jump.

Noah Eschenbach (Rosholt, WI) won two events for the men's team, capturing the shot put and hammer throw and finishing second in the discus. Aaron Carley (Lodi, WI) was also a double-winner, winning the triple jump and long jump. Luke Hilgers (Nekoosa, WI) won the discus and Scott Dreger (Cambria, WI) captured the javelin.

Craig Gunderson (Waupaca, WI) won the 400 meters, Ben Treptow (Viroqua, WI) won the 1,500 meters and Chris Pfaffenroth (Oshkosh, WI) claimed the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
