Guckenberger Earns WIAC Honor After Lowering Season ERA to 0.32

UW-Stevens Point's Karen Guckenberger has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference East Division softball Player of the Week after lowering her earned run average even further with 24 more innings without allowing an earned run last week.

The sophomore has posted incredible numbers this season with a 0.32 earned run average and a current streak of 37 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. The South Milwaukee native and former South Milwaukee High School standout has held opponents to a .142 batting average in 65 2/3 innings pitched.

Last week, she pitched 24 innings and had 25 strikeouts and two walks.

Saturday, she threw a complete game three-hitter, allowed one unearned run, and struck out seven to earn a win over 18th-ranked University of Chicago. In game two, she picked up the win in relief pitching two perfect innings and striking out three.

Guckenberger has given up only 33 hits, including just five for extra bases. In fact, opponents have hit just nine fly balls off her all season with none going to left field.
