Players of the Week Apr. 17 Baseball (Position Player) Kevin Fry (Helenville, WI/Lakeside Lutheran) - The freshman infielder hit .478 (11-for-25) and totaled 15 RBIs last week as the Pointers went 4-2. Fry smacked four doubles and two triples. He was eight-for-13 (.615) with runners in scoring position. Baseball (Pitcher) Jeff Pieper (Wausau, WI/West) - The freshman right hander fired a five-hit shutout in an 8-0 win over Marian College. He struck out five and walked only two while throwing just 71 pitches in a complete game effort. Softball Cari Briley (Creston, IA/Creston) - The junior right fielder led the Pointers to a 4-1 record at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational. Briley hit .529 (nine-for-17) with a double, triple and two stolen bases. Men's Track Events Shane Suehring (Marion, WI) - The junior runner automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Suehring's time of 9:08.44 was good for second place in the meet. Men's Field Events Joel Schult (Merrill, WI/Merrill) - The senior thrower won the discus at the North Central College Invitational with a distance of 48.66m (159' 8''). Schult's throw qualified him for the NCAA Division III Championships. He also placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 14.87m (48' 9.5'') Women's Track Events Leah Juno (Brillion, WI/Brillion) - The junior runner won the 800 meter run at the North Central College Invitational. Her time of 2:12.62 was good enough to automatically qualify Juno for the NCAA Division III Championships. She also ran a split of :58.6 for the 4 X 400 relay team which won their event in 4:01.35. Women's Field Events Megan Lundahl (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sturgeon Bay) - The sophomore thrower won two events at the North Central College Invitational. Her toss of 44.72m (146' 9'') won the hammer throw, and she followed that performance with a 38.44m (126' 1'') throw in the discus. |
