Juno Captures 800-Meter National Championship Junior middle distance runner Leah Juno claimed the National Championship in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Naperville, Illinois. Juno, a native of Brillion, entered the meet with the nation's sixth best time in the 800 meters. In Friday's qualifying race, Juno won by outrunning conference rival Kara Krumenauer of UW-Whitewater. Juno's time of 2:10.88 was the fastest of the eight runners who qualified for the final race. On Saturday, Juno faced her stiffest competition from Krumenauer and Heather Stone of the University of the South, who had the fastest 800-meter time in the country until Juno's effort on Friday. Juno edged Stone by seven one-hundredths of a second to claim the national title on a time of 2:10.60 |
