Pointer Sports Saturday, May 6 Men Win Four Titles to Finish Second at WIAC Track UW-Stevens Point set a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record in the mens 4x100 relay and won three other individual titles to finish second in the team standings at the WIAC mens outdoor track and field championships Saturday in Superior. Leah Juno won the 800 meter run to lead the Pointers womens team to a fourth place finish. UW-La Crosse won both the mens and womens titles, while the Pointers mens team edged UW-Oshkosh by 16 points for second place. The Pointers 4x100 relay team ran a time of 41.46 seconds in its record performance. Other winners included Shane Suehring in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 9:14.23, Dan Schwamberger in the 5000 meter run with a time of 15:25.41 and Craig Gunderson in the 400 meter run with a time of 49.13 seconds. Schwamberger, who also won the WIAC indoor title in the 5000 meters, placed second in the 1500 meters at 3:57.56. Sprinters Shawn Hau and Eric Miller also piled up points for the Pointers as Miller automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III meet while finishing second in the 200 meters with a time of 21.43 seconds. Miller also was third in the 100 meters in 10.71 seconds to provisionally qualify for nationals. Hau was a provisional qualifier in both events, finishing second in the 100 meters at 10.70 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters at 21.58 seconds. Chris Horvat was second in the 800 meters at 1:55.55, trailing by just .09 seconds. Mike Mead was second in the high jump at 6-8.75. On the womens side, Juno won the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.60. Becky Lebak, who won the 3,000 meters on Friday, was second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:33.23. Missy Kraemer was third in the 400 meters at 59.04 seconds and Katie Eiring was third in the pole vault at 10-09.5. The 4x800 relay team also was third in 8:46.22. |
