National Champion Mens Basketball Team Announces Award Winners

Following its first ever national championship, the UW-Stevens Point mens basketball team announced its season award winners at its recent year-end banquet.

Junior forward Jason Kalsow was named team Most Valuable Player for the 2003-04 season.  Kalsow, a Huntley, Ill. native, led the team in scoring (17.9 ppg), rebounding (8.0 rpg), and assists (3.6 apg).  Kalsow also received the Unity Award and was one of three captains on this years squad. In addition, Kalsow was a first team All-Conference performer and scored his 1,000th career point this season.

Manitowoc native and point guard Neal Krajnik received the only Senior Award after completing his fourth season with the Pointers. In his career Krajnik played in 113 games and scored 730 career points. Krajnik also received the Kurt Hoerman Passion award and was a team captain.

Nick Bennett, a Stevens Point native who attended SPASH, received the Dedication Award and was also a team captain. Like Kalsow, Bennett was a first team All-Conference performer and scored his 1,000th career point this season.

Junior center Eric Maus received the Most Improved Player Award. Maus, who is a Green Bay native and Southwest High School graduate, was a starter for the first time this season and contributed eight points and five rebounds per game. Maus also received the Humility Award.

For his efforts coming off the bench, Auburndale native and sophomore forward Brian Bauer received the Fireman Award.  Bauer appeared in 33 games for the Pointers and was the teams third leading rebounder.

Kyle Grusczynski, a junior guard from Seymour, joined Kalsow as a recipient of the Unity Award.

After attending every Pointer practice and game, and putting in countless hours in the office and locker room, team manager Will Atkinson, a Green Bay native and Bay Port High School graduate, received the teams Servanthood Award.

UW-Stevens Point finished the year 29-5 and defeated Williams (Mass.) in the Division III National Championship game 84-82.
