Pointers Drop Third Straight at St. Norbert

     The top defensive team in NCAA Division III hockey showed off its offense on Friday as St. Norbert jumped out to an early lead and beat UW-Stevens Point 9-3 in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association matchup in De Pere.

     It was UW-Stevens Point's third straight loss as the Pointers fell to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the NCHA. St. Norbert is 9-0-1 overall and 3-0 in the NCHA.

     The Green Knights, ranked second in the country, scored three goals in the first period and took a 6-0 lead in rolling to the win. UW-Stevens Point managed three goals against St. Norbert�s defense, which entered the game having allowed 12 goals in nine games.

     UW-Stevens Point scored two goals in 27 seconds on one of the nation�s top goaltenders in St. Norbert�s Kyle Jones. Brett Coburn scored with an assist from Matt Stendahl at the 11:18 mark of the second period. Stendahl then scored with assists from Coburn and Nick Zebro to pull the Pointers to within 6-2, however, St. Norbert�s Troy Boisjoli scored just 35 seconds later for a 7-2 advantage.

     Boisjoli finished with two goals and Shane Wheeler had two goals and two assists as seven different players scored for St. Norbert.

     Andy Cankar finished the scoring for the Pointers with assists from Brett Beckfield and Reed Lally at the 17:06 mark of the third period. The Pointers scored three goals on 16 shots as the Green Knights held a 38-16 advantage.
