Fish Lifts Pointers to Comeback Win Over Saints

Box Score

Sean Fish started and ended a comeback from a two-goal third period deficit for the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team in a 4-3 overtime victory over St. Scholastica on Friday at Willett Arena.

Trailing 3-1 with less than eight minutes left in the final period, Fish scored with assists from Russel Law and Josh Calleja to pull the Pointers within a goal. Just 46 seconds later, Nick Zebro scored off a pass from Dan Francis to tie the game.

In overtime, the Pointers benefitted from a five-minute major penalty on the Saints and cashed when Fish converted a rebound off a shot from Tom Upton for the game-winner with 1:05 remaining. The win snapped a four-game winless streak for the Pointers, who are now 4-4-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association. St. Scholastica is 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the NCHA.

Andy Cankar opened the game with an unassisted goal just 3:02 into the first period to stake UW-Stevens Point to an early lead. However, St. Scholastica bounced back with a first period goal from Kris Boyce and second period scores from Joey Hughes and Kyle Luschinski to take the two-goal advantage.

Marcus Paulson made 35 saves for the Pointers and Tyler Johnson stopped 21 shots for the Saints, who held a 38-25 advantage in shots. UW-Stevens Point had all five of the game's shots during the overtime period.
