Late Rally Falls Short in Pointers' Loss to Curry

Box Score

UW-Stevens Point scored two goals in the final 10 minutes of the game, but was unable to rally for a victory in a 5-3 loss to Curry (Mass.) on Friday in Superior.

The Pointers trailed 4-1 before Pat Lee scored in his first career game with 9:17 left off assists by Matt Stendahl and Josh Calleja. Brett Beckfeld scored with assists from Reed Lally and Chris Conway with 6:21 remaining, but the Colonels were able to hold off UW-Stevens Point the rest of the way and added an empty net goal from George Cademartori with 21 seconds left.

Curry's Donald Rankin scored a power play goal for the only tally of the first period, but the Pointers responded with a goal just 17 seconds into the second stanza as Calleja scored off assists from Lee and Rolf Ulvin.

Curry then scored three goals in a span of less than five minutes as Ross Enmark and Jason Tarbell each scored power play goals and Bill McCreary gave the Colonels a 4-1 lead.

UW-Stevens Point, which is now 4-7-2 overall, outshot the Colonels 31-26 as Marcus Paulson made 21 saves for the Pointers and Zachary Cardella stopped 28 shots for Curry, which improved to 7-3 overall.
