Jernberg and Fish
Named to All-NCHA and All-WIAC Men�s Hockey Teams
UW-Stevens Point landed two players on the
all-Northern Collegiate Hockey Association men�s hockey first team for the
second straight year as senior defenseman James Jernberg and freshman forward
Sean Fish both earned the honor.
The pair was also joined junior by forward Rolf Ulvin
on the first-team of the all-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
squad.
In addition, freshman forward Russel Law was named
honorable mention for both leagues. Junior defenseman Chris Gehrke was an
honorable mention all-NCHA pick and sophomore defenseman Colin Trulock and
junior forward Nick Zebro were honorable mention all-WIAC selections.
The Pointers finished 12-11-4 overall and tied for
fourth in the NCHA standings with a 6-6-2 league record.
Jernberg, a St. Cloud, Minn. native, earned his first
all-conference selection after posting three goals and eight assists for 11
points. One of the team�s most physical defensemen, Jernberg appeared in all 27
games and led the team with 38 penalties for the season.
Fish, a Ramsey, Minn. native, shared the NCHA scoring
title with seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in league games. Overall,
Fish played in all 27 games and totaled nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points.
He scored a team-high four game-winning goals.
Ulvin, an Edina, Minn. native, ranked second on the
team with eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points. Ulvin was a key to the
team�s success as UW-Stevens Point was 11-2-2 when he scored a point and 1-9-2
when he failed to score.
Law, a Bay City, Mich. native, shared the NCHA lead
with 10 goals scored in league games. He was UW-Stevens Point�s leading
goal-scorer in overall games with 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points and
scored a team-high five power play goals.
Gehrke, an Edina, Minn. native,
earned the award despite missing the last seven NCHA games with an injury. One
of the team�s top defensemen, Gehrke totaled two goals and six assists for eight
points.
Trulock, a Champaign, Ill. native, played in 24 games
for the Pointers this season and finished with four goals and eight assists for
12 points. He had four multiple-point scoring games.
Zebro, a Mosinee native, appeared in every game and
had six goals and seven assists for 13 points. He had a seven-game scoring
streak at mid-season and scored a shorthanded overtime goal to beat UW-Superior.
St. Norbert goalie Kyle Jones was the NCHA Player of
the Year and Green Knights� coach Tim Coghlin was Coach of the Year. UW-River
Falls coach Steve Freeman was the WIAC coach of the Year. |
