UW-Stevens Point Announces 2004 Football Award Winners

     The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point football team has announced its 2004 team award winners. The Pointers finished 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

     Tony Romano, a senior wide receiver from Waunakee, was named team MVP and the Offensive Player of the Year. Romano led the Pointers with 58 receptions, 965 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns.

     Brett Ehret, a senior linebacker from Clinton, was named the Defensive Player of the Year and the Linebacker of the Year.  Ehret led the Pointers with 98 tackles and five pass breakups.

     Tony Seidel, a sophomore defensive back from Green Bay and a graduate of Green Bay West High School, was named the Special Teams Player of the Year.

     Cody Childs, a sophomore running back from Poynette, was named the Back of the Year. Childs led the Pointers with 671 rushing yards.

     Ross Adamczak, a senior tight end from Plover and graduate of SPASH High School, was named the receiver of the year. Adamczak was second on the team with 644 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

     Cliff Ruland, a senior right tackle from Wonewoc, was named the Offensive Lineman of the Year.

     Steve Garvoille, junior defensive back from Oregon, was named the Defensive Back of the Year. Garvoille was second on the team with 86 tackles.

     Clint Bakken, a senior defensive lineman from Boulder Junction and graduate of Lakeland High School, was named the Defensive Lineman of the Year.  Bakken had 49 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks.

     Dustin Robinson, a freshman running back from Florence, was named the Most Improved Player. Robinson was third on the team with 339 rushing yards and he also scored two touchdowns.

     Brett Borchart, a sophomore quarterback from Huntley, Ill., was named the Newcomer of the Year. Borchart threw for 2,746 yards and 22 touchdowns while also scoring six rushing touchdowns.

     Kasey Morgan, a freshman from Iola, was name Rookie of the Year.  Morgan led the Pointers with 112 punt return yards and was second with 195 kick return yards.

     Chris Freiman, a freshman running back from Wisconsin Rapids and graduate of Lincoln High School, was named the scout team Offensive Player of the Year, while Dan Filtz, a freshman defensive back from Wittenberg, was named the scout team Defensive Player of the Year.
