Kempf Tosses Complete Game to Help Pointers Advance

     University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point eliminated University of St. Thomas (Minn.) from the NCAA Division III Wisconsin Rapids regional with a 6-2 win at Witter Field on May 19.

     The Pointers will face St. Olaf College (Minn.) at 7:00 p.m. today for the opportunity to square off against Ripon College (Wis.) in the regional championship on May 20.

     St. Thomas was eliminated from its 13th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament and finished with a 31-11 record.

     UW-Stevens Point got on the board in the fourth when Doug Coe lined a two-out single to left to score Nat Richter.

     UW-Stevens Point�s Jake Frombach led off the sixth with a double and scored on Ryan Byrnes� single to right center.   Coe followed with a sacrifice fly that plated Chuck Brehm who walked.

     The Pointers displayed their home run power in the seventh and eighth innings as Brandon Scheidler belted a solo shot to left in the seventh and Byrnes greeted new Tommie pitcher Lonnie Robinson with a solo blast to center in the eighth.  Coe contributed another solo shot to right center in the eighth for his third run batted in of the contest.

     Travis Kempf tossed the complete game for UW-Stevens Point to improve to 5-2 on the season.  He scattered seven hits, struck out four batters, allowed no earned runs and didn�t allow a Tommie runner to reach third base until the ninth

     Riley Bosch took the loss for the Tommies to fall to 4-3 on the year.  He threw seven innings and struck out eight batters.
