Brehm Leads
Offensive Attack Over Yellowjackets
Chuck Brehm had an all-around day to lead a big
day for the UW-Stevens Point offense in a doubleheader baseball sweep of
UW-Superior on Friday in Stevens Point.
The senior centerfielder had seven hits, six
RBI�s, three stolen bases and two home runs in the two games as UW-Stevens
Point posted 13-0 and 20-2 victories over the Yellowjackets.
Brehm was two-for-four in the opener and added a
five-for-five performance with five runs scored in the second game. Brehm,
who now has 20 stolen bases for the year, also crushed a pair of two-run
homers to give him 11 for the season. He is the first player in Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history to record at least 20 stolen
bases and 10 home runs in the same season.
Jordan Zimmermann had a two-hit shutout with nine
strikeouts in the opener. He allowed back-to-back singles to lead off the
second inning, but then set down 14 straight batters and allowed just one
walk the rest of the way.
Jake Frombach was three-for-three with four runs
scored in the opener. Brehm hit a two-run homer in the first inning and Nat
Richter added a three-run blast in the fourth. Adam Evanoff had run-scoring
doubles in the third and fourth innings.
UW-Stevens Point pounded out 20 hits and scored in
every inning of the second game. Doug Coe hit two-run home runs in the
first and fourth innings to lead the Pointers� slugging attack. Richter,
Brehm and Ryan Byrnes also homered in the victory as the Pointers hit seven
home runs in the two games.
Richter was four-for-five in the second game to
finish six-for-eight with eight RBI�s for the day. Evanoff was
three-for-four in the nightcap and Frombach was two-for-four with four more
runs scored.
Josh Perkins earned the victory, allowing four
hits and two earned runs. He retired the final 12 batters faced to finish
with a complete game.
The Pointers are now 23-14 overall and 12-9 in the
WIAC, while UW-Superior is 3-33 overall and 0-22 in the league. The two
teams meet in the regular season finale on Saturday at noon at University
Field. |
