Perkins to Be
Featured on CBS Spring Sports Show
UW-Stevens Point baseball
pitcher Josh Perkins will be among the features on the spring edition of
"CBS Sports Presents Championships of the NCAA." The one-hour broadcast will
recap all non-televised NCAA championships and air nationally on CBS on
Sat., July 1 at 2 p.m. (Central time).
Perkins, a 26-year old senior from Two Rivers, helped lead the Pointers to
the NCAA Division III World Series after missing the past two seasons
while serving in the U.S. military in Iraq. A first-team all-conference
pitcher in 2003, Perkins returned this season to earn first-team honors
again while posting a 7-2 record with a 3.20 ERA and three saves. He also
ranked second in the conference with 81 strikeouts, including a school
record tying 15 strikeouts in a 3-0 shutout of UW-Oshkosh in the conference
tournament.
Perkins was granted an extra
year of eligibility for this season after his military duty. Perkins (formerly Blaha)
was married last summer and his wife, Christine, a UW-Stevens Point
graduate, also served in Iraq and will be featured on the show along with
his parents, Bo and Char.
Footage will be shown of
Perkins' pitching performance in the Pointers' 12-3 win over Aurora (Ill.)
at the World Series. Perkins earned the victory by allowing four hits and
one run over six innings.
The show is aired following
each of the three sports seasons and recaps all non-televised NCAA
championship events. Also part of the spring production will be coverage of
the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships, which included
several UW-Stevens Point athletes. |
