Baseball Team Ranked Fifth in Final National Poll
The UW-Stevens
Point baseball team finished the season one spot higher than it started the
year in the NCAA Division III rankings.
Ranked sixth in
the American Baseball Coaches Association preseason poll, the Pointers ended
up fifth in the final poll of the year on the strength of their amazing
postseason run that included 10 straight wins when facing elimination and a
win at the Division III World Series.
UW-Stevens
Point dropped out of the rankings after a 4-5 record in March. The Pointers
were ranked 30th entering the NCAA tournament and moved back into the top 10
after earning their World Series berth. They ended the year with a 35-18
overall record, including a 6-5 record against other ranked teams with two
one-run losses to second-ranked Wheaton (Mass.) and a 2-1 setback to
top-ranked Marietta (Ohio) at the World Series. |
