Byrnes and Thrun Collect WIAC Weekly Honors
A pair of UW-Stevens Point baseball
players collected Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of
the Week honors as Ryan Byrnes and Mike Thrun were honored.
Byrnes,
a Beaver Dam native, was the conference�s position player of the week after
hitting .500 over four games during the past week. The junior rightfielder
went seven-for-14 with five runs scored, two doubles and four RBI�s. He went
six-for-seven in a doubleheader sweep of 18th-ranked Ripon, including
four-for-four in the second game. Byrnes leads the team with a .415 average
and ranks second on the team with 27 RBI�s.
Thrun,
a Franklin native, was the league�s pitcher of the week after he pitched a
career-high eight innings and took a shutout into the ninth inning of an
eventual 4-1 win over Ripon last week, snapping the Red Hawks� 17-game
winning streak. The sophomore lefthander scattered six hits and allowed one
run with four strikeouts in the victory.
The Pointers are
currently 20-14 overall and 10-9 in the WIAC. |
