Richter's
Record-Setting Day Not Enough in Losses
Nat Richter set a single-game school record with
six hits, but it wasnt enough to lead the UW-Stevens Point baseball team to
victory as the Pointers lost to Augustana (Ill.) 10-7 on Sunday in Port
Charlotte, Fla.
The sixth-ranked Pointers also lost their second
game of the day with a 3-2 setback to 24th-ranked Wheaton (Mass.).
UW-Stevens Point is now 2-2 on its trip and plays Washington & Jefferson
(Pa.) in a doubleheader on Monday.
Richter was six-for-six and drove in four runs
with a pair of doubles against Augustana. Adam Evanoff was two-for-three and
Jake Frombach was two-for-four in the loss.
Josh Perkins took the defeat on the mound in his
first start since May 2003 after serving military duty the past two years.
He pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs, seven hits and
five walks while striking out five.
Jordan Zimmermann pitched a stellar second game
for the Pointers, but got little offensive support in the loss to Wheaton.
Zimmermann went eight and one-third innings, allowing six hits and one
earned run. He struck out nine and walked one, but Wheaton got two unearned
runs in the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. UW-Stevens Point rallied with
a run in the eighth, but stranded a runner in scoring position to end the
inning.
Frombach and Doug Coe were each two-for-four for
the Pointers. |
