Zimmermann, Brehm
Land All-American Honors
After leading their team to the NCAA Division III
baseball World Series, UW-Stevens Point�s Jordan Zimmermann and Chuck Brehm
were both named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-American
team.
Zimmermann, a sophomore pitcher and designated
hitter, was a second-team utility selection. Brehm, a senior centerfielder,
earned third-team honors as an outfielder.
The pair is the fifth and sixth All-Americans in UW-Stevens Point history,
joining Gary Kostuchowski in 1997, Paul Molitor and Bill Verbrick in 2002
and Steve Wiczek in 2005. They led the Pointers to a 35-18 record and a
fifth place finish at last weekend�s national championship in Appleton.
Zimmermann, an Auburndale native, was the
Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year while
leading the league with a 2.28 ERA and 103 strikeouts with 20 walks. He held
opponents to a .172 batting average and had eight complete games among his
11 starts. Zimmermann also hit .355 with seven home runs and 22 RBI�s.
Brehm, a Spencer native, earned the WIAC Position Player of the Year award
after leading the league with 16 home runs, 29 stolen bases and 63 runs
scored. Brehm hit .340 and delivered 48 RBI�s. He finished his career ranked
second in school history with 36 home runs and 53 stolen bases.
UW-Stevens Point was one of just seven schools to
have more than one player among the 50 All-American selections. |
