UW-Stevens Point Rallies Past St. John's
UW-Stevens Point rallied from
an early four-run deficit to defeat St. John's 13-7 on Tuesday and improve
to 4-1 on its spring break trip in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Jake Frombach hit a leadoff
home run for the Pointers, but the Johnnies scored four runs in the bottom
of the first inning and two more in the second for a 6-2 lead.
St. John's took a 7-6 lead in
the bottom of the sixth, however the Pointers gained their first lead with a
three-run seventh when Chuck Brehm tied the game on an RBI groundout and Nat
Richter followed with a two-run double.
Frombach was three-for-five
with four RBI's, while Ryan Jones and Steve Wiczek were also each
three-for-five. Jones had a two-run homer in the eighth and a pair of
doubles.
Aaron Achterberg pitched six
and one-third innings with four strikeouts for the victory. UW-Stevens Point
pounded out 14 hits off seven St. John's pitchers.
The Pointers will face
Frostburg State (Md.) in a single game on Wednesday.
