Reinke Named NCAA Division III Baseball Pitcher of the Week
For the second
time this season, UW-Stevens Point has had a baseball player selected as a
National Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of
America as J.C. Reinke was selected as the Division III Pitcher of the Week.
Reinke, a
senior from Bonduel, pitched a two-hit complete game shutout with seven
strikeouts in Fridays 10-0 triumph over top-ranked UW-Whitewater. He
carried a no-hitter until two outs in the fifth and allowed one runner to
reach third base against a squad that entered the game with a national-best
.394 batting average. It was Reinkes second straight shutout and his fourth
complete game in his last five outings.
Reinke joins
leftfielder Chuck Brehm as the second UW-Stevens Point player to earn the
national honor this season. Brehm was the National Hitter of the Week for
the week of April 4-10. Reinke is expected to pitch the Pointers opening
game in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament on
Friday against UW-Oshkosh at 1 p.m. in
Wisconsin Rapids.
Outfielder Dan
Wentzell of George Fox (Ore.) earned this weeks Hitter of the Week award.
Brehm Named to First-team Academic All-District Squad
UW-Stevens
Point junior outfielder Chuck Brehm has been named to the first-team
Academic All-District squad by the College Sports Information Directors of
America and ESPN The Magazine.
A Spencer

Division II, Division III and NAIA players from
Wisconsin,
Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota. With the All-District selection, he is now
eligible for Academic All-American honors.

home runs per game with 13 homers in 39 games played. He also ranks 30th
nationally with 51 runs batted in and 20th with a .750 slugging percentage.

his on-field success, Brehm has twice been honored as UW-Stevens Points
Physical Education major of the year and is currently president of the
schools SHAPER Club for Physical Education majors. He has also volunteered
as a math tutor for local high school students.
