UW-Stevens Point
Ranked 18th in NCAA Division III Baseball Poll
After a strong start to the
season last week in Florida, the UW-Stevens Point baseball team checked in
at 18th in this weeks NCAA Division III rankings by the American Baseball
Coaches Association.
The Pointers received votes
in the preseason poll and moved into the rankings after winning four of five
games against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponents and
sweeping 20th-ranked Carthage, which moved up to 12th in this weeks
rankings.
UW-Stevens Point is one of
three Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams in the poll as
UW-Whitewater is third and UW-Oshkosh is ninth. Rowan (N.J.) is the nations
top-ranked team.
Baseball
Doubleheader Scheduled for Wednesday Postponed
UW-Stevens Points baseball
home opener originally scheduled for Wednesday against UW-Oshkosh has been
postponed. Due to unplayable field conditions in Stevens Point, the Pointers
and Titans will play on Friday, April 1 at Tiedemann Field
in Oshkosh. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
Because of the change in
location, the doubleheader between the two teams on April 13 has been moved
to Stevens Point.
Wiczek Named WIAC
Baseball Offensive Player of the Week
UW-Stevens Point senior designated hitter Steve
Wiczek has been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
baseball offensive player of the week after a torrid stretch during the
teams spring break trip to Florida.
Wiczek, a Stevens Point Area Senior High graduate,
hit .536 (15-for-28) over seven games while posting four doubles, three home
runs and seven runs batted in. He also scored a team-high 12 runs with a
.594 on-base percentage.
The Pointers finished 6-1 for the week and hit
.384 over the seven games while averaging 10.7 runs per game during the
trip. |
