Pointers Open Season With Sweep of
Concordia
Steve Wiczek homered in each game and drove in the
winning run in the opener as the UW-Stevens Point baseball team swept
Concordia-Moorhead 8-7 and 8-5 on Sunday to open its season in Port
Charlotte, Fla.
Wiczek, a senior from Stevens
Point, went two-for-four in the first game and had the game-winning hit,
driving in two runs with a bases loaded single in the bottom of the seventh and final inning.
Kevin Pankow earned the victory in relief.
Wiczek and Ryan Jones connected for back-to-back
home runs in the fifth inning of the second game and Plover native Adam
Evanoff also homered later in the inning as the Pointers completed the
sweep. Shane Standifer threw four innings for the victory and Pankow pitched
two innings for a save.
UW-Stevens Point plays a doubleheader with St.
Olaf on Monday in Port Charlotte. |
