Study Tips & Time Management

The following student support services may be able to give you the edge you need to make the most of your college career here at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point:

Tutoring and Learning Center: This program helps students in all disciplines in their college careers. Senior staff at the TLC help students by matching students' tutoring needs with a tutor interested in or studying the same discipline. The tutors do not provide the answers but work as coaches helping you to help yourself.

Student Support Services: This is a federally funded program providing comprehensive academic support and guidance to 250 eligible students. Their office offers three main services: advising and counseling, tutoring, and study skills instruction (Education 105). 201 Student Services Center, 346-3828

Counseling Center: In addition to counseling services, this office provides workshops that will help you develop your skills for success. The workshops include such topics as: communication skills, relaxation techniques, stress management, study skills, and time management. Check out the Resources section of their home page.

The Computer Guide Program is a resource that helps students learn how to use computers, or learn how to use them better, focusing on: Word – for word processing, or writing papers; Outlook – the e-mail program you use at UWSP; Internet Explorer – a browser, used to navigate the Internet; Windows – and other general computer questions; Web Page Help - we can help with the basics.

Residential Living Academic Support:If you live in the residence halls, there are a number of academic support programs available.

You can also try out some courses offered here at UWSP that may help you in your study and time management skills.

HP/W 107 - Career Exploration - 2 credit - This course uses computer software and career related materials to help in clarifying career options and to assist in making academic and personal choices related to career i information. It also fulfills an HE Wellness GDR.

Education 105 - 1 credit - This course covers study skills such as: reading comprehension, note taking, time management, memory, exam preparation, etc.

English 157 - 1 credit - This course offers an individualized program for improving your writing abilities.

Library Resources 101 - 1 credit - This course will teach you how to more effectively use the University Library System.

Wellness 144 - Stress Management- 1 credit - This course will teach you some different ways to handle your stress.
