Advising for Students in Transition


Students in transition are those who:
  • Wish to explore other major/minor options;
  • Have been denied admission into selective programs;
  • Have been unsuccessful in completing prerequisites for a specific major program;
  • No longer meet the minimum standards for their chosen major; or
  • Hold advanced credit hours, but are not making progress toward a degree in their present major.

    As a student in transition between majors you will need to obtain academic advising services until the time you are assigned a faculty advisor in a new department. You may need assistance in deciding on a new major. The Student Academic Advising Center (SAAC) and the Career Services Office can provide such services.

The Student Academic Advising Center (SAAC) can help you by:
  • Acting as your homebase for needed academic advising while your are in transition;
  • Reviewing your past academic decisions;
  • Helping you with a realistic self-appraisal;
  • Providing you with information and resources on other academic majors;
  • Determining how your completed coursework might be incorporated into other majors; and
  • Assisting you in developing a credit to degree plan.

The Career Services Office can help you by providing:
  • Career counseling;
  • Guidance in utilizing the computerized Wisconsin Career Information System;
  • Career assessment instruments;
  • Follow-up study of recent UWSP graduates tracking their employment; and
  • Access to extensive Career Resources Library.
