Student Achievements

At UW-Stevens Point, it’s the students who make our campus such an exciting place to live and learn! Our students are continually being recognized - locally, nationally and internationally - for their many wide-ranging achievements. Here we list just a handful of our students’ impressive accomplishments - we’d sure love to add your name to this list!

  • Katie Crabb, an English education and theatre major, was the recent winner of a nationwide competition for college students to design a 30-second commercial for Chevrolet's new line of cars. Her ad, selected from over 800 entries, ran during the Super Bowl, and will continue to run throughout the year.

  • A documentary by Matt Nie, a communication graduate student from De Forest, "Good Stuff: The Story of a Man, a Dream and a Whole Lotta Kites," was named Best Short Film in the Triggerstreet Competition at last year's Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

  • Azaree Lintereur, a physics major, became the seventh UWSP student to win the famous Goldwater Scholarship given to undergraduate students with exceptional potential for a career in science. She also just completed a prestigious internship in medical physics at the Marshfield Clinic/St. Joseph’s Hospital.

  • Dan Mitchell, a jazz studies and composition major, has had two of his original compositions recognized through two national songwriting contests. His instrumental piece, "The Dawning of a Soul," won the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers/H. Robert Reynolds Wind Ensemble Composer's Competition. This past spring Mitchell went to New York to hear a performance of his piece by the National Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall.

  • Yu Wang, an environmental education graduate student and a native of Kunming, China, is the first-ever Ford Foundation International Fellow at UWSP.  She is one of 460 Ford Foundation International Fellows named late in 2004.  Nearly 20,000 applicants in 22 countries and territories applied for this prestigious fellowship.

  • Three UWSP Athletic Training students spent the summer and fall serving as interns with NFL teams. Tom Krahn, Mike Wasmundt, and Paul Neuenfeldt had daily duties including taping, stretching, and providing treatment to professional athletes.

  • Nick Scribner of Clayton, a CNR graduate student, was awarded a National Wildlife Refuge System Centennial Scholarship. Scribner studies shoreline development and its impacts on fish habitats.
