Major:
English;
Creative Writing Minor
Hometown:
Abbotsford, WI
Extracurricular/Campus Activities:
I am an avid
runner so I have a pass to the
Strength Center in the Health Enhancement Center and run
through the
Schmeekle Reserve when the weather’s nice. I also enjoy
reading and writing poetry, along with hanging out with as many
people as I can. I have been involved with the music department
in ensembles
and have been part of
Cornerstone
Press on campus.
Why did you
choose to attend UWSP?
I chose UWSP
for its small campus atmosphere, but at the same time being big
enough to help me get to where I need to go. The campus itself
is really well kept and beautiful in all seasons, which
definitely makes it easier going to classes. The professors were
able to remember me from my visit when I was a senior in high
school to my freshman year at UWSP. That’s something unique.
Favorite UWSP memory:
Probably going to hockey
games with my girlfriends. It can be really cold on the
walk to the ice arena and back, and there are always some great
memories that come out of those games.
What do you like most about going to
UWSP?
I really like the friendly atmosphere.
Whether you’re eating and the servers are being really friendly,
or you’re in class and your professor has ample office hours to
help you out, there is always a friendly face that can point you
in the right direction.
My experience so far here has been nothing but positive, and
when I leave I am certain that I will be prepped to the max to
achieve my goals.
What do you like best about the Stevens Point community?
I like how close and family-like the community
treats you when you’re a student. They just kind of absorb you
into their daily life, and a lot of the community is very
interested in what you’re doing in school.
How has your interaction with professors benefited your
education?
They have all positively encouraged me to strive
further than I thought I was originally capable of. A few in
particular do an excellent job at mentoring, for further
schooling and future classes, and others have such an open door
policy, they make sure you are doing well socially and
academically.
What are your career goals?
I plan to go to graduate school to
further my study in English, specifically poetry and creative
writing, to become a professor and eventual author.
How has UWSP prepared you for your future?
I have learned to become a better rounded, more
accepting individual. UWSP teaches you to grow as a person, so
when you leave the undergraduate portion of UWSP, you can tackle
the walls that are in front of your future.
What advice would you give to a new UWSP student?
Take the time out of your class schedule to visit the unique
places and programs on campus. You never know how much you’re
going to enjoy something unless you try it. Also, don’t be
afraid to use the
residence halls to their utmost - take part in programs in
the hall! It’s a great way to meet your future friends.
