When I’m not studying I like to root for the
Pointer
hockey team,
watch movies, go shopping, and travel anywhere!
Do you have
a job?
I’m a Lab Coordinator for the
Information Technology
Department.
I manage the public computer labs in the Collins
Classroom Center and the Lab Assistants that work in those labs.
It’s a great on-campus job because I’ve learned a lot
about computers and I also get to do my homework while I’m
working!
Why did you
choose to attend UWSP?
As one of the only schools in the state offering my major
(Interior Architecture), Stevens Point felt like the best fit
for my personality.
I love the size and location of the school and once I got here I
felt right at home!
Favorite event on campus:
It’s hard to choose because there are so many great events going
on all the time! My
favorite event would have to be when
Centertainment brings in a hypnotist each year.
Last year my boyfriend was hypnotized into thinking that his
belt was a snake. I still like to tease him about that.
What do you like most about going to
UWSP?
I feel that even though I am paying public tuition, I am getting
a very personal, private education, with small class sizes
taught by professors who actually know my name.
At UWSP the
student
government also works really hard to voice students’ views,
which makes me feel like my opinion matters.
Favorite hangout spot on campus:
Schmeeckle Reserve,
during all months of the year! You can go jogging, biking, and
kayaking in the summer and snowshoeing and sledding in the
winter.
Favorite study spot on campus:
The
Dreyfus University Center. I love to relax upstairs next to
the fireplace while catching up on some reading, and it’s
comforting to know that anything I need is only a few steps
away.
What do you like best about the Stevens Point community?
I like that it is large enough to offer all the
amenities of city life, but also small enough to make you feel
at home, and comfortable with the people around you.
What are your career goals?
I’d like to work for a commercial
design firm, ideally one focusing on restaurant, hospitality,
and/or retail design.
How has UWSP prepared you for your future?
I feel that through the opportunities and
experiences here at UWSP I have come to know myself better
individually and professionally and feel confident that I can
achieve anything that I set my mind to. I have established
several professional relationships through events put on by the
Interior Architecture Department and its related organizations.
I have gained insight to the professional world from
speakers and presentations and have also made friendships with
upperclassmen through Internship Seminars and Portfolio Shows.
What advice would you give to a new UWSP student?
Don’t be a hermit!
Find some friends that have the same interests as you and
go out and do something!
Join a club, attend an event, go workout, get involved in
sports…the possibilities are endless but you have to be willing
to make the effort. Study Abroad!
Do it! With the
help of scholarships and grants, and the option of short 3-week
study tours to semester-long trips, there is no reason not to.
Getting to experience life outside of the U.S. will not only
make you more aware of your place in the world, but will also
give you a new respect for things you might’ve previously taken
for granted (like free public bathrooms)!
