Major:
Biology;
Environmental
Studies Minor
Hometown:
Belgium, WI
Extracurricular/Campus Activities:
The Newman
University Parish, Neale Hall Leadership Team, and
National
Residence Hall Honorary.
I love running and biking, especially on the
Green
Circle Trail. I also
enjoy drawing, reading, listening to music, attending Pointer
sporting events, and hanging out with friends.
Do you have
a job?
I am a Neale Hall FIG/ARC (Freshmen
Interest Group
and
Academic Resource Coordinator), a New Student Orientation
Leader, a summer Swim Instructor/ Lifeguard, and I work in the
Career Services Office.
Why did you
choose to attend UWSP?
I originally came to UWSP because I was impressed with the
Athletic Training program.
I felt comfortable with the campus when I visited, and
the students and staff who I was introduced to were extremely
helpful and welcoming.
I eventually changed my major, but I am glad I decided to
come here.
Favorite event on campus:
UWSP sporting events
as well as the
Theatre Department productions
Favorite UWSP memory:
I did a 13 hour Adventure Race as part of the
Adventure
Racing Club in the Fall.
My partner and I didn’t even finish the race because we couldn’t
portage our canoe through the woods.
We had to canoe (with both of our bikes and ourselves)
over a 100+ foot lake.
It was so exciting!
I learned how to orienteer through the woods, and I still
get sick when I think about eating another Clif Bar.
What do you like most about going to
UWSP?
I like the community atmosphere we have at Point.
The professors do an excellent job getting to know
students, and there are many support systems for students on
campus, especially in the residence halls and the academic
offices. I always feel
like people are looking out for me when I’m here.
Favorite study spot on campus:
I have a favorite weeping willow tree in
Schmeeckle Reserve
that I like to study under, but when it’s cold I like to mix it
up.
The first floor of the library, the University Center
fireplaces, and the study lounges in the Residence Halls are all
pretty good too.
What do you like best about the Stevens Point community?
I like how there are always events going on in the
community that are open to University students.
The community and the University often work together, and
it’s nice to feel included.
What are your career goals?
Right now I’m leaning towards pursuing a career in student
affairs. I seem to change
my mind a lot though.
How has UWSP prepared you for your future?
I have learned how to effectively manage my time,
keep a healthy balance of school, work, friends, etc.,
communicate professionally, and live independently.
What advice would you give to a new UWSP student?
Come to school with an open mind and
a willingness to try new things.
Get involved in an organization or activity you are
interested in - you’ll meet more people like you that way.
Make your residence hall room your home, and introduce
yourself to your neighbors.
College classes are a lot different than high school
ones, and it really is a good idea to study
J.
Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions or visit your
professors; they can be really good resources.
