Introduction
The Social Science major is an interdisciplinary program in that all courses are taken
in departments in the individual social science fields: anthropology, economics, human geography, history,
political science, psychology, and sociology. The excellence of the faculty in these fields assures a strong
preparation for the student who elects a social science major or minor.
Why Study Social Science at UW-Stevens Point?
The several departments contributing to this Letters & Science major are composed of
faculty specializing in classroom teaching. Classes are generally small, allowing for close student/faculty
interaction.
High School Preparation
High school students interested in the Social Science major should concentrate on courses
in history and other social sciences.
Department Features
All departments are housed in classroom buildings with lecture rooms, conference and
small discussion facilities, and laboratory facilities where relevant to the discipline. The psychology library
should be particularly noted. Library resources represent continuous and careful building of materials.
Employment Opportunity

not in education have found this major to provide background for a number of careers, including those of law school
or other graduate education; local, state, and national government positions including Social Security
Administration and other civil service positions; business including insurance, banking, and general
