Introduction
The PA/PA program at
UWSP is one of only a very few in the
state, offering the opportunity to
prepare for a career in public service
or for further study in the field. The
core of the program is taught in the
departments of Political Science and
Economics, but students have the chance
to draw on the expertise of more than 50
faculty in a total of 9 different
departments as they tailor their own
individual program of study.
Why Study Public Administration and Policy Analysis at
UW-Stevens Point?
This
interdisciplinary program offers students the chance to
combine the study of the practical techniques of
administration and policy analysis with a sophisticated
and in-depth study of the political environment in which
that administration and analysis take place. This
combination offers unique preparation for the world of
work in federal, state, or local government.
High School Preparation
No special
preparation is necessary.
Department Features
The program
features a wide range of courses from several
departments. It integrates the study of politics and
public policy with the study of psychology, economics,
sociology, and even natural resources into an integrated
package of courses that uniquely prepares future
administrators.
Employment Opportunity
PA/PA
graduates enjoy an excellent placement rate. Some have
combined PA/PA with a second major and seek employment
as administrators in a public sector organization
dealing with their special area of interest, whether
that be economics, psychology, sociology or natural
resources. PA/PA combined with the Small City Analysis
minor enhances employment prospects, as does a major or
minor in Business Administration. Many students go to
graduate school to earn an MPA in Public Administration
or Public Policy. Of particular interest are city
management and health policy and administration.
