Introduction
The Political Science
major at UWSP is a liberal arts major
allowing students to study the
government and politics of the United
States, other nations, and international
relations while still giving them plenty
of time and opportunity to explore other
areas of interest in social sciences and
humanities. The Pre-Law Program is
housed in the department. The department
also offers a major in Public
Administration and Policy Analysis.
Why Study Political Science at UW-Stevens Point?
If you are
looking for small classes taught by a dedicated faculty,
a lot of individual attention, the opportunity for an
internship in state, local, or national government, a
chance to become involved with other students in campus
and community politics, and the kind of education that
prepares you for advanced study of politics, policy,
administration, or the law, then the UWSP Political
Science department just might be the place for you.
High School Preparation
If you enjoy reading,
write fairly well, and have an interest in politics and
government, you are prepared to study Political Science
at UWSP.
Department Features
Eight faculty, all with Ph.D.s from leading
universities, teach courses ranging from the
survey of American politics or international
relations, to the intensive examinations of
the politics of Eastern Europe, the workings
of the Congress, health policy, or civil
liberties in America. The end result is a
well-rounded education in Political Science.
Employment Opportunity
UWSP Political Science graduates go on to
further study at a rate just over three
times that of the campus average. Those who
choose not to continue their studies find
employment in both the public and private
sectors, doing everything from serving as
policy analysts in the legislature to being
middle or high school political science
teachers.
