Introduction
The mathematics
program at UWSP has a wide range of
options for students, from actuarial
science to secondary education, to
statistical quality control, to general
mathematics.
Why Study Mathematics at UW-Stevens Point?
With 150 math
majors on campus, the program is large enough to offer a
full range of courses, yet small enough so that you will
have a chance to work directly with professors. We are
also noted for our work with technology. You will begin
calculus with graphing calculators and move to a wide
range of the latest mathematical tools.
High School Preparation
You should take four
years of mathematics in high school. If you take AP
calculus courses, you can receive credit for such
advanced work, either through AP scores or through
retroactive credit.
Department Features
The
Mathematics Department has fifteen faculty members. They
have interests in topology, geometry, actuarial
mathematics, probability and statistics, mathematics
education, and calculus. Many have good working
relations with mathematics professionals in the field.
Employment Opportunity
Mathematics
graduates are finding a wide range of jobs. One hundred
percent of secondary mathematics majors are being
placed, as are all actuarial students. Eighty to ninety
percent of other math majors are finding jobs that use
the skills they have acquired at Point.
