Introduction
The minor in
Environmental Communication develops
communication skills so that resource
managers can interpret technical
information to the public. The courses
in the minor provide practical
experiences in writing, speaking and
communications.
Why Study Environmental Communication at UWSP?
Program
strengths include an integrated resource management
curriculum, the intern program, field-oriented
instruction, small upper-level class size, intensive
academic advising, summer field camp and optional field
study in Germany, Australia, Costa Rica and Africa.
High School Preparation
To prepare for a
minor in Environmental Communication, high school
students should focus on courses in biology,
environmental sciences, computer science, journalism and
communication.
Department Features
The Human
Dimensions of Natural Resources discipline has 12
faculty members with Ph.D.s in various resource
management disciplines, including Environmental
Education, Environmental Communication and Public
Relations, Land Use Planning, Youth Camp Management,
Resource Policy and Law, and Integrated Resource
Management. Other courses are taught by faculty from the
Forestry, Wildlife, Water Resources, Soil Science and
Biology disciplines.
Employment Opportunity
The
Environmental Communication minor is designed to develop
communication skills for resource managers employed in
such areas as wildlife management, forestry, water
resources, soil conservation, etc. This additional skill
will certainly improve the vita of an individual seeking
employment in those professions. There are limited
employment opportunities in environmental communication
as a profession. These opportunities are usually within
the communication offices of natural resources and other
public offices plus working with private, non-profit
organizations.
