Introduction
The Broad-field Social Science major and minor for teacher certification are multidisciplinary programs in which students take courses in the fields of anthropology, economics, human geography, history, political science, psychology, and sociology. Students select a major or minor in one social science discipline and then take additional courses in two or more of the other social science fields for breadth.

Why Study Broad-field Social Science at UW-Stevens Point?
The faculty members in the social sciences bring a broad range of specializations to course offerings. Among the more unusual courses are those in the anthropology of religion, environmental economics, the geography of gender and environment, race and ethnicity in Latin America, the politics of terrorism, cross-cultural psychology, and environmental sociology.

High School Preparation
Students interested in the teaching certification in Broad-field Social Science should pursue a well-rounded program in high school; the study of history, literature, the social sciences, the sciences, and a foreign language provides a solid foundation for the major.

Department Features
The Learning Resources Center has good library holdings in the social sciences as well as specialized holdings such as the Government Documents Collection. In addition, the Universal Borrowing System offers undergraduates quick and easy access to research materials.

Employment Opportunity
The goal of this major is to produce social science teachers for Wisconsin's primary and secondary schools. Placement of Broad-field Social Science majors and minors from UW-Stevens Point is usually at least twice as high as the state average because entrance into the School of Education is highly competitive.
