Introduction
The Individually Planned Major (IPM) is
designed to help the limited number of students who cannot meet their career
goals through existing academic programs but whose goals may be met through
a combination of existing offerings. Students desiring Individually Planned
Majors work with faculty advisors from each of the areas represented in
their programs in order to assure that career goals are met.

Why Develop an IPM?
A student who has very clear career goals
that do not match the program offerings at UWSP might choose to design an
Individually Planned Major.
Special Requirements
- A 2.75 grade point is required for entry into the program.
- A 3.00 grade point in the major is required for graduation.
- A plan for the major must be approved by a committee of five faculty
before the end of the sophomore year or a waiver must be approved by the
IPM coordinator.
- The major must contain a minimum of 36 credits with at least nine
credits from two academic areas.
Employment Opportunities
The student must provide evidence to the
committee that their educational goals cannot be adequately served by an
existing major, and that the IPM will enhance their employment opportunities
and/or entrance into graduate school.
