A. Yes. If you are admitted, you will be requested to submit a $100 enrollment deposit. This deposit is required to guarantee your enrollment for the term for which you have applied and is refundable through May 1 for fall applicants and through November 15 for spring applicants. A. An on-campus housing contract will be sent to you from the Residential Living Office after you are admitted. Traditionally, all applicants for university housing have been accommodated in the residence halls regardless of their application date. A. Yes. Unless you are living at home with your parents/legal guardian and commuting to campus from within a 40-mile radius, or you are an upper-class transfer or a non-traditional or special student, you must live on campus during your freshman and sophomore years.

In your housing application you may indicate your preferences for living options such as quiet wings, wellness emphasis, and intercultural programs or wings that specialize in a specific foreign language or area of study. You will be matched with someone of similar habits and notified about your roommate three to four weeks prior to the start of the semester.
A. Yes, and you'll find you can choose from five meal plans which vary according to the number of meals provided and the number of food points. Because we try to cater to many different tastes, we offer a variety of meat and non-meat entrees, fruit and salad bars, dessert bars, grilled and fried foods, pizzas and subs. You may dine at any of our seven food locations.
A. Yes. Student lot assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis. Students may apply for parking as early as May or June for the following fall term. Parking decals for the 2007-2008 school year cost $116.90 including tax. Fees for second semester parking only are 60% of the annual fee plus tax. A. Computer labs open to all students are located in most of the academic buildings, as well as the Learning Resources Center and the University Center. Over 500 computers are available in these labs.
In addition, there are computer labs containing 9-15 Windows computers and a laser printer in the basement area of each residence hall. These are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for all residents.
Students who bring their own computers may purchase an Internet connection for their residence hall rooms. The connections currently cost $70 per semester. Roommates can each be connected, and each will pay the connection fee each semester. All computers must have an Ethernet-compatible 10/100 baseT network card installed, which has an RJ45 plug. Most new computers come with built-in network cards, but in case yours does not have one, they are available from computer stores or on the Internet. UWSP does not sell network cards. Wireless network is available in the University Center, the Learning Resources Center, the Allen Recreational Center, the Debot Dining Center, the Student Services Center, most academic buildings and Old Main. If you have a portable computer with a wireless network card, you can learn how you can get on the campus network and the Internet at this website.

A. UWSP Protective Services has a mission to provide a safe campus environment as well as protection of persons and property, and according to the UW Campus Crime Reports ("Student-Right-to-Know Information"), UWSP ranks as the safest campus in the entire UW System. The permanent security staff, assisted by specially trained student patrols, covers the residence hall areas, student parking lots, and the campus grounds.
Code Blue emergency phones can be found at 20 locations all around the campus, including the Schmeekle Nature Reserve a few blocks north of central campus. When activated, they provide a direct voice link to the Protective Services Dispatch Center where security personnel can be directed to the scene. A blue strobe light is triggered to alert others in the area of the emergency.
In addition, student transit vans operate Sunday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Vans make stops at several designated locations on campus every half hour and provide safe rides to residence halls and homes within a 5-mile radius of the campus. Student cadets provide over 100 hours of patrol duty per week, and walking escorts can also be provided after dark upon request.
