Hector

Major:
Undecided, but thinking about education / mathematics or Spanish

Hometown:
Plainfield, WI

Extracurricular / Campus Activities:
When I’m not studying, I like to go swimming, wall climbing, and hang out with friends.

Why did you choose to attend UWSP?
Because Point has a great education program, it has a good environment, and it’s close to home.

Best spot to hang out on campus:
I think the best place to hang out on campus is the Brewhaus because they have a place to study, fun games, music, and food. It’s a blast to go there and hang out with friends.  The LMC (library) is definitely the best place to study because they have tutoring services, quiet places, and computer access.

What is your favorite memory of your time at UWSP?
My favorite memory so far was the soccer club season because we all were friends, hung out, and had fun before and after games.

What do you like best about the Stevens Point community?
I like that it’s a safe community, and everyone is friendly.

How have your professors benefited your time at UWSP?  Do you have a favorite?
They are always willing to help and give advice when needed. They have made my education experience fun and they taught me more about myself.  I can’t really say I have a favorite professor because all of the professors I have had so far are awesome and it’s been a privilege to have been in their classes.

What are your career goals?
Well, as of right now, I'm still trying to make up my major, but I am thinking about becoming a teacher.

How has UWSP prepared you for your future?
UWSP has taught me how to be more responsible and work to the best of my ability on everything.

What advice would you give to a new UWSP student?
College is different than high school; there is no one to push you to excel, so it’s time to push yourself. The first semester is tough because you come with that high school mentality. You have to keep up with your work, study hard, and don’t be afraid to seek your professors for help.
