Why did you choose to attend UWSP?
Coming to UWSP was a choice that I came to after I visited the campus. I
came to see the campus through the Multicultural Leadership Camp, and
there I met a lot of the people I am still friends with today. That
program is the only reason I came to UWSP and without it I probably
would have ended up somewhere else, so I am grateful for it.
What do you like most about going to UWSP?
The best thing about being a UWSP student is that if you have the drive
you can really do whatever you want. The campus has a lot to offer if
you go searching for it. I decided to go searching right away and got
involved in everything I could possibly fit on my plate. Being so
involved is the reason I have stayed here and why I would definitely
recommend this school to almost anyone.
Where’s the best place to hang out on campus?
Being that I am a multicultural student, I usually spend most of my time in the
Multicultural Resource Center. I do everything from studying to sleeping there. My closest friends are the people that are there almost every day with me.
What is your favorite memory of your time here at UWSP?
I have a daughter who is five years old now and my favorite memory comes
from her. She came to one of my award ceremonies and when I got
announced she got up and clapped for me and ran up to me on my way back
to my seat. As I picked her up to go back to my seat she gave me a big
hug and told me she wanted to be just like me. That really touched me
and made all the work I put into school worth it.
What are your career goals?
I want to become a neurosurgeon. Once I graduate I will be heading straight to medical school
How has UWSP prepared you for your future?
My classes have definitely prepared me for my future, and I feel that I
am adequately prepared for medical school. I have been able to get an
internship, connections to medical schools, and help with my resume and
interviewing skills here.
What advice would you give to a new UWSP student?
Overall my advice is to go out and make your own college experience and
tailor it to you. One thing I would recommend to anyone to do is to try a
study abroad program. I have had the privilege of being able to do so
and it really was an amazing experience. To those that don’t have the
time to go abroad for a semester, like me, going over spring break,
winter break, or summer is a great option. Graduating from college and
not taking advantage of being able to study abroad is something I would
have regretted and I am sure most people would feel the same way.
