Admission to UW-Stevens Point

  • Application Procedure
    To apply to UW-Stevens Point as a transfer student, complete the UW System admission application form. You may apply online at apply.wisconsin.edu​ or by submitting a paper application to:

    Paper applications can be obtained through UW Colleges Student Services Offices and the UWSP Admissions Office, or downloaded at apply.wisconsin.edu.

    Request that your official transcripts be forwarded directly to the UWSP Admissions Office from both your high school and any colleges or universities you have attended.

    List Business Administration as your intended major on your application form.

    While there is no deadline for applying to the University, early application is recommended because UW System enrollment management efforts may require us to limit our enrollment.

  • General Admission Requirements to the University
    • Students from the UW Colleges who will have earned 54 or more credits by the time they transfer to UWSP are eligible for admission with a grade point average of 2.00 or higher. If you will have earned fewer than 54 transfer credits by the time you transfer, you will need to meet the admission requirements in effect at the time your application file to the University is complete.

    Please note that admission to the University does not guarantee admission to a particular major.

  • When Should You Transfer?
    Students from the UW Colleges interested in the Business Administration major at UWSP may remain at the UW Colleges campus and earn an Associate Degree prior to transferring. As part of your Associate Degree, you may complete courses toward the UWSP General Degree Requirements and the Business Administration major.

UWSP General Degree Requirements

Students majoring in Business Administration may complete the General Degree Requirements for either the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. The General Degree Requirements for each degree are listed below, along with courses from the UW Colleges that may be applied toward the requirements.
 
  1. Freshman English -- 3-6 credits required (BA & BS) 
    Students from the UW Colleges take ENG 101 & 102. Students who are exempt from ENG 101 at the UW Colleges will also be considered exempt from English 101 at UWSP, but will still need ENG 102.
  2. Communication -- 2 credits required (BA & BS) 
    COM 103 at the UW Colleges
  3. Mathematics -- 3 credits required (BA); 7 credits required (BS)  
    Take Mat 105, and either Mat 211 or Mat 221 at the UW Colleges to satisfy the math requirement for the major and the general degree requirement. Also, take one course in statistics such as Mat 117 at the UW Colleges.
     
    PLEASE CONSULT THE TRANSFER INFORMATION SYSTEM (TIS) FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON WHICH COURSES FROM THE UW COLLEGES MAY BE APPLIED TOWARD THE FOLLOWING UWSP GENERAL DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:
     
  4. Natural Science 
    BA: 6-10 credits required. 
    You must take at least one laboratory course in each of 2 disciplines (disciplines include astronomy, biology, chemistry, geography, geology and physics). 
    BS: 12-15 credits required.​
    You must take at least one laboratory course in each of 2 disciplines (disciplines include astronomy, biology, chemistry, geography, geology and physics), and you may receive general degree credit for no more than one course numbered "100".
     
  5. History
    • BA: 6 credits required (must be a two-course sequence)
    • BS: 3 credits required
  6. Humanities and Social Science 
    Humanities is divided into 4 areas as follows: Area 1 (history and appreciation of art, communication, dance, theater and music); Area 2 (literature); Area 3 (philosophy, political theory and religious studies); Area 4 (civilization, area studies and interdisciplinary courses). Social Science is divided into 2 categories. Most traditional social science courses are in Category 1, which includes such disciplines as anthropology, economics, political science, psychology and sociology.
    • BA: 18 credits required, of which 9 must be in Humanities and 6 must be in Social Science; the remaining 3 credits may be from either Humanities or Social Science. In the Humanities, one course is required in each of Areas 1, 2 and 3. In the Social Sciences, courses must be taken in two or more social science disciplines, with a minimum of 6 credits in Cat. 1.
    • BS: 18 credits required, of which 6 must be in Humanities and 6 must be in Social Science; the remaining 6 credits may be from either Humanities or Social Science. In the Humanities, courses must be selected from at least two of the four areas. In the Social Sciences, courses must be taken in two or more social science disciplines, with a minimum of 6 credits in Category 1.
    **NOTE: Business Administration majors (both BA and BS) will be required to take both macro- and microeconomics (ECO 203 & ECO 204 at the UW Colleges).  These courses will apply toward the Social Science general degree requirement; however you will still need to take at least one additional social science course in a discipline other than economics to fulfill the general social science requirement.
  7. Foreign Language
    • BA: 8 credits required (one year of college work in one foreign language)
    • BS:  None required
  8. Environmental Literacy -- 3 credits required (BA & BS)
     
  9. Wellness -- 3 credits required (BA & BS) 
    The Wellness requirement is divided into two categories: Aerobic/Activity and Health Enhancement. At least 1 credit must be taken in each category; the third credit may be from either category.
  10. Minority Studies & Non-Western Culture (BA & BS) 
    Please note that at least one course you take must be designated "Minority Studies", and at least one course you take must be designated "Non-Western Culture". Courses with these designations will usually also meet another general degree requirement, such as Humanities or Social Science.
  11. Writing Emphasis -- 6 credits required (BA & BS) 
    You must take at least 6 credits of courses that are designated as "Writing Emphasis".
 
SPECIAL NOTICE FOR STUDENTS TRANSFERRING FROM THE UW COLLEGES TO UW-STEVENS POINT WITH THE ASSOCIATE OF ARTS & SCIENCE DEGREE:
 
If you are transferring to UWSP and have earned an Associate of Arts & Science degree at one of the UW Colleges, you will automatically have satisfied the following general degree requirements for the BA or BS degree at UWSP: Natural Science, History, Humanities and Social Science, Environmental Literacy, Minority Studies and Non-Western Culture. You will not automatically have satisfied the general degree requirements in Freshman English, Communication, Mathematics, Foreign Language, Wellness and Writing Emphasis. Of course, you may have satisfied these requirements if you took the specific course work to do so.
 

Course and Enrollment Requirements for the Business Administration Major

  • Complete Math 109, 111, or 120; Econ 110; and one of the following courses: Acct 210, Econ 111, Bus 320 or 330 with a 2.5 cumulative in-major GPA or better to apply to become an intended major.
  • Grades you earned at another campus ARE included in these requirements and in your GPA calculation.
  • Courses in Business Administration are open to all students who meet the prerequisites.
  • To graduate from UWSP with a major or minor in Business Administration, you must have a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in all major/minor required courses, including transfer courses.
  • The Business Administration major consists of 46 credits. In addition to the 46 required credits, Business Administration majors must also have:
    • a minor OR
    • a second major OR
    • an area of concentration.

The Transfer Information System (TIS) provides information that will be helpful as well. Students frequently ask, "How do I select a minor?" We suggest that you select a minor based on your abilities, interests and career goals. You may select from any one of the 75 minors available at the University. Some course work leading to the completion of a minor can be completed at the UW Colleges.
 
Internships can play a crucial role during your college career. While we highly recommend an internship, it is not required.
