Summer Orientation 2012
Orientation is designed to calm your nerves, answer your questions, and prepare you for the many exciting challenges that await you at UWSP. You will be welcomed by an enthusiastic staff that will inform you of university programs and services and acquaint you with the campus. Orientation will ease your adjustment into your new community.
All students must attend an orientation session to register for fall semester classes. During Orientation, you will meet with your academic advisor and choose/register for classes.

What to expect when you arrive:
Parking
Parking is provided for all Orientation participants in Lot X. Orientation staff will be located at the entrance to Lot X from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. The staff will provide you with a parking permit, so please look for them when you arrive.
Location
Orientation will begin in the Dreyfus University Center, which is about a 2-3 minute walk from Lot X. Transportation will be provided for individuals with special needs.
Breakfast
A hot breakfast is scheduled for all Orientation participants (including parents and guests) from 7:30 - 8:15 a.m. at the Food Court in the Dreyfus University Center.
Program
Day One
7:30 a.m. Check-in will begin in the Dreyfus University Center, where all participants will receive program materials.
8:45 a.m. Orientation Program begins promptly in the Alumni Room, Dreyfus University Center.
7:00 p.m. The program lasts until 7:00 p.m. on the first day.
Day Two
8:00 a.m. The program begins in the Alumni Room, Dreyfus University Center.
1:00 p.m. The program normally ends by 1:00 p.m. on the second day.
Detailed information about Orientation will be sent to you with confirmation letter.
Parents/Family:
Your involvement in Orientation is important, not just for the support it provides your student, but for the wealth of information tailored specifically to your questions and concerns. We address academic requirements, degree planning, academic advising, academic support programs, billing, health and counseling services, career counseling, dining options, residence hall living, rules and regulations, safety issues, and adjustment to the University environment. You will be able to meet with faculty, staff and students, as well as other parents. The one and a half days are busy, informative, and anxiety reducing for many parents. You will be able to share common concerns with other parents while getting all of your important questions answered. We sincerely encourage you to accompany your son or daughter to Orientation, but you are not required to attend.
Program, Meals and Lodging Costs:
PROGRAM fee ONLY: Includes all materials, hot breakfast, refreshment breaks and parking.
PROGRAM and MEALS fee: $38.00 for Student - $38.00 for parent or guest - Includes program, full lunch and dinner buffet on first day and full breakfast on the second day. Meals are all-you-care-to-eat at an extensive buffet bar including 2 or 3 hot entrees, dessert bar, fruit bar, and hot and cold refreshments.
LODGING fee: $18.00/night per person: Everyone choosing to stay on campus will be housed in the air-conditioned Neale Hall. Linens, blankets and pillows are provided. If you need to arrive the night before the program, you may check in at Neale Hall between 6:30 p.m. and midnight. Individuals staying in Neale Hall the night before the program will need to park in Lot X and must pay for an additional night lodging ($18.00 per person). You will also receive your parking permit when you check into Neale Hall if you requested an extra night lodging. If you arrive the day of the program check in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Neale Hall. You will then be directed to the Dreyfus University Center.
Parents and students do not stay in the same room. Parents/guests who register together will be housed together. If only one parent/guest is attending they will be housed with another parent/guest of the same gender.
** Orientation is a self-sustaining program and is not supported by University, State, or Federal tax dollars. Charges for food & housing reflect direct costs and are paid directly to the vendor that provides the service. Other costs include: materials, orientation staff (leaders), refreshments and parking.
How to Register for Orientation:
The reservation forms will be mailed out in mid-late February, along with detailed instructions. We do not take reservations over the phone, nor do we take debit/credit card payments. Registration for Orientation occurs on a "first-come, first-served" basis. Sessions fill quickly, and seating is limited. Please indicate your first, second and third choice of dates on the Registration Form. Should your choices be filled, we will assign you to the next available session. A confirmation will be mailed to you as soon as you are assigned to a session.
Reservations cannot be confirmed unless payment is included.
Cancellations and Refunds
Cancellations can be made at any time but, in order to receive a refund, the cancellation request must be made 2 WEEKS in advance of the scheduled orientation date. Also, if a student does not show up for their scheduled Orientation session, they will automatically be placed in the final orientation session in July. Please plan accordingly when choosing Orientation sessions.
To guarantee that you and another student can attend the same session, you MUST send both reservation forms and payment in the same envelope.
