The organization awarding the scholarship should provide the student with information as to how and when the check will be distributed. Please contact the scholarship provider with any questions.
Scholarships are applied on student bill balances first. If the amount of the scholarship is greater than the student bill balance, a refund check for the excess will be issued to the student. The direct deposit option is not applicable to scholarship refunds.
Student address information must be kept current to ensure mailed refund checks will be received. Make address changes online at Change Your Address or contact the Registration & Records Office.
Different scholarship distribution methods require different responses and procedures:
Scholarship checks payable to UW-Stevens Point that are sent directly to the university:
The Bursar's Office will apply the scholarship to the designated student's bill. No action is required by the student. Any refunds generated due to overpayment will be mailed to the student.
Scholarship checks payable to UW-Stevens Point and the student jointly or schlolarship checks payable to the student alone and sent directly to the university:
A notice is mailed to the student instructing them to visit the Bursar's Office to sign the scholarship check. The funds will then be applied to their student bill. Any refunds generated due to overpayment will be given to the student.
Scholarship checks sent by the provider directly to the student's home address:
The scholarship check will need to be presented to the Bursar's Office for processing. The student may choose to either mail the scholarship check to the Bursar's Office or bring the check to the Bursar's Office in person. The funds will then be applied to the student’s bill. Any refunds generated due to overpayment will be mailed to the student.
